Botox® Cosmetic Injections

Non-Surgical Wrinkle Treatment in Newport Beach

For effective Botox injections in the Newport Beach area, visit Pure Beauty MD, where you can benefit from the expertise of Orange County's Botox specialist, Dr. Ratnaja Katneni.

Dr. Katneni is renowned for her skillful application of Botox® Cosmetic, aimed at reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while also achieving a more lifted look.

Why choose Botox for your anti-aging procedures?

Botox is a well-known, extensively researched cosmetic treatment developed by Allergan. It has been studied for decades and is recognized for its various therapeutic and cosmetic applications. Botox injections help relax the muscles that cause facial wrinkles, including forehead lines and crow's feet, preventing the formation of deeper, more permanent wrinkles over time. Investing in Botox is a proactive step towards maintaining a youthful appearance.

When should you start using Botox?

Both men and women in their 20s are now opting for Botox as a proactive approach to anti-aging. While there is no universally right time to start Botox injections, many individuals begin their wrinkle treatment in their early 30s to 40s, depending on personal preference.

How do Botox® Cosmetic injections work?

Botox® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) works by relaxing facial muscles. This product blocks communication between nerve endings and surrounding muscles. Botox is injected into targeted areas to treat overactive muscles responsible for wrinkles associated with facial expressions like frowning and laughing. It can also assist with narrowing the jawline caused by clenching, a process known as masseter reduction.

Where can Botox® Cosmetic be applied?

Botox® Cosmetic is FDA-approved for moderate to severe wrinkles between the brows (known as the angry 11s) and has various other applications. Botox is commonly used to treat:

In the upper face:

- Forehead lines and creases

- Frown lines or "angry 11s": The lines between the brows

- Crow's feet: Lines at the corners of the eyes

- Under-eye wrinkles: A small amount of Botox can address this issue, often requiring combination treatments for optimal results.

- Bunny lines: Wrinkles forming at the sides of the nose near the eyes

In the lower face:

- Jaw reduction: Botox can help with bruxism (teeth grinding), which enlarges the masseter muscle, creating a wide lower face appearance. Additional treatments may be recommended during your consultation.

- Chin: Conditions like peau d'orange or cobblestone chin can be improved with a few units of Botox.

- Drooping mouth corners: A muscle that pulls the mouth down can be relaxed with a small amount of Botox, resulting in a more uplifted smile and enhancing your overall appearance. This may be combined with fillers for added effect.

- Gummy smile: If your gumline is prominent when you smile, Botox can help by administering small amounts in the appropriate areas to improve this cosmetic concern.

Other uses for Botox:

- Axillary hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating: Dilute units of Botox can be injected into the armpits to alleviate excessive sweating. Dr. Katneni employs the Mesoram technique, using small, Botox-sized needles for precise injections.

- MicroBotox: This technique involves injecting Botox into superficial skin areas to enhance skin texture, particularly under-eye crepiness.

How many units of Botox are required?

The number of Botox units needed varies based on the treatment area, muscle strength, activity level, and whether you've had Botox previously. Stronger muscles and deeper wrinkles often necessitate more units.

How quickly does Botox take effect, and how long does it last?

You can expect the effects of the treatment to start within approximately 72 hours, reaching peak effectiveness in 1-2 weeks, at which point frown lines and wrinkles should show noticeable improvement. To maintain the softening of facial furrows and creases, repeat treatments are typically needed every 3-6 months.

Be sure to follow up with Dr. Katneni in 2 weeks to evaluate if additional Botox units are necessary.

Why use Botox?

Botox is a well-known, well-researched cosmetic treatment made by Allergan. It has been studied for decades and is recognized for its various therapeutic and cosmetic uses, making it a popular choice among anti-aging procedures.

Botox injections are designed to help relax the muscles that cause facial wrinkles, such as forehead lines and crow's feet, effectively preventing the formation of more permanent, deeper wrinkles over time. It is truly an investment in yourself to maintain a youthful appearance and prevent wrinkles.

When can I start using Botox?

Botox is increasingly being utilized by both men and women in their 20s as a proactive approach to anti-aging. While there is no definitive right time to start using Botox, most individuals begin their wrinkle treatment journey in their early 30s to 40s, depending on personal preference.

How do Botox® Cosmetic injections work?

Botox® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) promotes relaxation of facial muscles. This treatment works by blocking communication between nerve endings and the surrounding muscles. Botox is strategically injected into specific areas to address overactive muscles that create wrinkles during facial movements such as frowning or laughing. Additionally, it can aid in narrowing the jawline caused by clenched muscles, known as masseter reduction.

Where can Botox® Cosmetic be used?

Botox® Cosmetic is FDA-approved for treating moderate to severe wrinkles between the brows (often referred to as the 'angry 11s') and is applied for several other indications.

In the upper face, Botox is effective for:

- Forehead lines and creases

- Frown lines or "angry 11s": those lines between the brows

- Crow's feet: lines and wrinkles at the corners of the eyes

- Under-eye wrinkles: a small amount of Botox can help address this issue, and a combination treatment may enhance results.

- Bunny lines: lines that develop at the sides of the nose near the eyes

In the lower face, Botox can be used for:

- Jaw reduction: Teeth grinding or bruxism, often due to stress, can enlarge the masseter muscle, leading to a wider face. Botox can treat this condition, and other treatments may be recommended based on individual consultations.

- Chin: Conditions like peau d'orange or cobblestone chin can be improved with Botox, as just a few units can smoothen the chin's appearance.

- Drooping at the corners of the mouth: A muscle that pulls down the mouth's corners can be relaxed with a small dose of Botox, leading to a more uplifted smile and enhanced overall appearance. This may be paired with other treatments like fillers.

- Gummy smile: For those with a prominent gum line visible when they smile, Botox can be injected in the right areas to alleviate this cosmetic concern.

Other uses for Botox include treating axillary hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, where diluted units can be injected into the armpits. Dr. Katneni employs the Mesoram technique, which utilizes tiny Botox-sized needles for precise injection.

MicroBotox:

Botox can also be injected into superficial skin layers to improve texture, including under-eye crepiness.

How many units of Botox are needed?

The required number of Botox units varies based on the treatment area, the strength of the muscles involved, how actively those muscles are used, and previous Botox experience. Stronger muscles, deeper wrinkles, and higher activity levels generally necessitate more units.

How quickly does Botox start to work and how long do the effects last?

To maintain the softening of facial furrows and creases, repeat treatments are usually needed every 3-6 months. Who is not a candidate for Botox injections?

- Botox and other cosmetic procedures, including anti-aging procedures, are contraindicated, meaning they are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Please inform us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

- If you have neuromuscular disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis, Botox is contraindicated. Your complete medical history is crucial for us to provide the best results.

PRE-PROCEDURE BOTOX INSTRUCTIONS:

- Avoid blood thinning medications such as aspirin and NSAIDs, including Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other similar medications.

- Avoid vitamins and herbal over-the-counter supplements like Vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, and Omega-3/Fish Oil.

- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your treatment.

- Start taking Arnica tablets or pellets (5 pellets three times a day) 2 days before your procedure.

POST-PROCEDURE BOTOX INSTRUCTIONS:

- Do NOT touch, manipulate, or massage the treated area for at least 4 hours after your treatment.

- Do NOT lie down for 4 hours after your Botox injections. This will help prevent the Botox from tracking down to your eye and causing eyelid drooping. Avoid activities like donut holes, massage, acupuncture, and anything else that involves lying down.

- No strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for 24 hours.

- Do NOT receive laser treatments, facials, or microdermabrasion treatments for 7-10 days.

If you are considering other treatments, such as Jeuveau treatment, please discuss with your provider.

- Slight bruising may occur after your procedure; taking Arnica tablets can help reduce bruising. Continue taking Arnica (5 pellets three times a day) for 2-3 days after the procedure.

Jeuveau Injections
Wrinkle Treatment in the Newport Beach Area

What is Jeuveau? Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) is a highly purified form of botulinum toxin A, the same active ingredient found in Botox injections, Xeomin, and Dysport. Similar to Botox, Jeuveau is made up of the same 900 kDa protein but goes through a unique purification and drying process known as "Hi-Pure" technology, making it a standout option for those seeking anti-aging procedures.

Is Jeuveau Available in the U.S.? Jeuveau received FDA approval in February 2019 for the injection into facial muscles to enhance the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.

What Makes Jeuveau Different from Botox? Jeuveau was specifically designed to be a premium competitor to Botox. In clinical studies, Jeuveau was found to effectively soften the appearance of frown lines, similar to Botox. This is referred to as a "non-superiority" study. The difference lies in its purification and drying processes, as Jeuveau's vacuum drying method has been shown to preserve the botulinum toxin protein better than traditional methods. This could mean that Jeuveau may offer improved potency compared to other wrinkle treatments, such as other neuromodulators.

Where Can Jeuveau Be Injected? Jeuveau is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, Jeuveau can also be injected off-label by Dr. Katneni in Newport Beach to address unwanted wrinkles and overactive muscles in various areas of the face and neck. These areas include forehead lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines on the nose, wrinkles around the mouth, lip flip, gummy smile, orange peel chin, and the platysmal band on the neck (horizontal lines on the neck).

Can I use Jeuveau treatment if I have only had Botox injections or Dysport in the past? There are no limitations for patients who have previously used other products to try Jeuveau. The results from this anti-aging procedure are likely to be quite similar, although individual variability is possible. Some patients have reported a slightly longer duration of the effects.

Are results from Jeuveau seen immediately? While some individuals may notice wrinkle relaxation within the first 24 to 48 hours, most patients observe the full effect of the Jeuveau treatment within 4 to 7 days following the injection procedure.

How long does Jeuveau last? Does Jeuveau last longer than Botox or Dysport? Jeuveau has a comparable duration to other neuromodulators such as Botox. Typically, results from this wrinkle treatment last 3-4 months.

What is the possible downtime and side effects following Jeuveau treatment? There is typically no downtime following treatment with Jeuveau, an effective option among anti-aging procedures. In terms of side effects, the product labeling is similar to that of Botox injections, Dysport, or Xeomin. Most patients experience no side effects after their Jeuveau treatment, and like other neuromodulators, Jeuveau is deemed very safe by the FDA. The most common side effects include bruising, swelling, or pain at the injection site. There is a small chance of headache, around 10%, which is actually lower than the incidence observed in patients receiving a placebo during the FDA clinical trial. As with other wrinkle treatments, Jeuveau may have very rare side effects, such as eyelid drooping, difficulty swallowing, strained speech, or difficulty breathing. Who should not use Jeuveau? Limitations or contraindications to Jeuveau are the same as those for Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin. Individuals with an allergy to any component of Jeuveau or botulinum toxin type A should not use Jeuveau. Additionally, patients with certain neuromuscular conditions, such as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, and myasthenia gravis, should avoid this treatment. Jeuveau should not be injected in areas with active skin inflammation or infection. Please inform Dr. Katneni of any medications you may be taking, as some may rarely cause interactions with the effects of Jeuveau. Can I use Jeuveau with other procedures? Jeuveau can be combined with other procedures, occasionally on the same day. Some injectable filler treatments can be combined with this wrinkle treatment. However, Dr. Katneni generally recommends that light treatments, laser procedures, microneedling, chemical peels, and other skin procedures be performed during a separate visit in Newport Beach.
